From a young age, the water called
Growing up in St. Marys, John wasted no time after school, rushing to the pond before dusk. His life revolved around chasing the next bite, a passion that still burns bright today. He sought out every angler, eager to learn, and many of the older gentlemen who mentored him—Captain Benny Hendrix, Mr. Carol Turney, Mr. Douggie Fresh, Mr. Doug White, Mr. Simon, Mr. Tyrone, Andrew Allen, and of course, his parents—are now proud to fish alongside him.
Milestones on the water
Fishing was so ingrained in John's life that even his childhood celebrations were fish-themed. By 13, he was expertly navigating a jon boat, building confidence for a lifetime on the water. A significant highlight came in May 2010, when he and his father set a Georgia state record for Black Drum. John has also claimed multiple tournament victories from Savannah down to Central Florida, solidifying his status as a seasoned angler and leading him to purchase his first bass boat in 2012.
The journey to captain
Though he served proudly as a firefighter for St. Marys and later was a submarine mechanic at Kings Bay Naval Base, John's deepest passion always lay with fishing. With the unwavering support of family, friends, and mentor Captain Benny Hendrix, he earned his Captain's license in 2024. He then committed fully, becoming a full-time charter captain. Today, Captain John brings decades of local insight, a patient demeanor, and a wealth of information to every trip, making it kid-friendly and truly unforgettable.
